Reflection

Experience

Through this module, it gave me the chance and opportunity to develop my sense of style as well as improve on myself. Since there is so much freedom given to produce the final style of font, I had some struggles along with solutions. Firstly, I had to explore existing fonts in order to get some inspiration to start with. See, this may be a problem since I might be influenced by other fonts. However, I tried to overcome it by being more creative and drafting my fonts up to 6 times. Trying to be as original as possible, I finally decided on a certain style. Secondly, time management has become such an obstacle. Along with the whole process, I’ve learned how to manage my time better. Moreover, in order to get the best results, patience and determination is key. Third, I became more familiar with a new software (Adobe Illustrator, FontLab, Adobe Animate). Furthermore, I had to learn from videos online, as well as trials and errors. Consequently, with all the challenges I faced, I felt like i have improved.

Observation

There are 3 main implications I discovered during the process of this project. The first one being that, I can only produce high quality results only if I put a lot of time into it. Certain parts of this project that I gave more time seems to be “better” to me than parts in which I did in a shorter amount of time. Though I tried to better my time management, I realized that time = better quality. Hence why, I need to always start ahead and not procrastinate. The second one is that I lack the confidence to go out of my comfort zone. Instead of exploring more areas and styles, I sticked to a style that I’ve been familiar and comfortable with. Lastly, in relation to the 2nd implication, I lack in the urge to explore ideas outside the ideas I’m accustomed to. In order to improve, these implications need to be worked on.

Findings

In conclusion, I’ve learned a lot of skills as well as face challenges throughout the process of this module. I know that I can learn from anyone, anytime, and everywhere. The evolution in communication technologies has eliminated space and time, in which ideas and information are accessible anywhere and everywhere. For example, finding new inspirations in the internet, made it easier for me to look at multiple samples and ideas simultaneously. Furthermore, artworks posted by other artist online helped unlock my mind and stimulates it to new concepts and thoughts. Besides that, learning new softwares through e-lessons (videos) made it immensely easier to understand the new software. Not only from lectures, but these videos helped me gained the skills to improve my overall workings.
